DOUBT IS POISON TO A DREAMER S/S 23
Deviate’s Doubt is Poison for a Dreamer collection debuted at New York Fashion Week as a visually striking and deeply symbolic exploration of ambition and self-doubt. Inspired by a custom comic strip, the collection tells the story of a character’s journey to the fictional “Land of Dreamers,” where they face trials of self-doubt symbolized by “apples of doubt” that poison their path. The narrative, centered on themes of uncertainty, friendship, and perseverance, shaped the show’s aesthetic, with character designs and messages woven throughout the garments. Heroic music set the tone as the show opened with a strong first look in shades of purple, pink, and orange: a kaleidoscopic hoodie featuring black illustrations and colorful knotted loopers paired with white denim shorts and matching patterned Dr. Martens. Hand-knitted silhouettes, mesh graphic garments, and sustainable fabrics brought the comic’s vibrant world to life, blending avant-garde and functional styles to symbolize the triumph of dreamers over doubt.
